Casting YouTube from a smartphone or tablet

If you have a SmartTV or streaming device but don’t have a Smartphone or tablet, click here for instructions on casting from a Mac or Windows computer.

• Recommended: Sign into YouTube (Gmail account required) on both devices before beginning.    Click here if you need help signing in to YouTube.

To cast the video to your Smart or Smart-connected TV from a Smartphone or tablet: Start by opening the YouTube app on your SmartTV, AppleTV, Roku, FireStick, or ChromeCast device

From YouTube app on iPhone/iPad/Android

Open the YouTube app

Open the link for the video you would like to cast

Click the cast icon in the upper-right corner of the video window 

Select your TV or streaming device from the list

When you are finished, click the cast icon and select “Disconnect”

If you have don’t have a Gmail account:

The following should work with all streaming devices except AppleTV. If you have an AppleTV and don’t have a Gmail account, your only options are to sign up for a Gmail account (free) or use AirPlay.

For all other devices:

Open the YouTube app on your SmartTV or Streaming device

Click “Settings”

Select “Link with TV Code” and write down the code provided

Open the YouTube app on your Smartphone or tablet

Open the link for the video you would like to cast

Click the cast icon and select “Link with TV Code”

Enter the code
